- established in 1922, the Simcoe County Forest (SCF) became the first 'Agreement Forest' in Ontario
- at over 31,000 acres and growing, the SCF is the largest municipal forest in Ontario
- formerly managed through an agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources; managed directly by the County since 1996
- management of the SCF is intended to balance the substantial environmental, economic, and social benefits provided by the forest
- the SCF is completely self-funded and does not require any tax support; all revenues from the sustainable management of the forest are reinvested in management and continued strategic land acquisitions
- the SCF became certified through the Forest Stewardship Council in July 2010
