Simcoe County Arboretum

Visitors to the County of Simcoe Administration Centre will see a sign on the right of the entrance for the Duncan Green Arboretum. The Duncan Green Arboretum was established in 1998.  Mr. Green joined the County of Simcoe in 1976 as Treasurer and in 1982 he became the County’s first Chief Administrative Officer.  He retired from this post in 1997 and passed away soon after he retired.

Mr. Green supported the concept of an arboretum on the Administration Centre grounds to recognize the contributions of County staff to the County’s success.  When Council dedicated the Arboretum in 2002, it was named in his memory.

In 2007, Council approved a process to nominate and recognize past and present County staff for their significant contribution to the greater good.  Any present or former member of County staff may be nominated for any of the following criteria:

  • Exceptional Service
  • Team Building/Teamwork
  • Mentoring
  • Heroism on the Job
  • Length of Service

Upon induction, a tree will be designated to honour the inductee with commemorative plaque.

For more information, view the full Nomination and Induction Framework. To submit a nomination, print the Nomination Forms

Nominations received by March 31 each year will be considered in that year.  Nominations should be addressed to the Arboretum Steering Committee, c/o the Purchasing Fleet and Property Department at the Administration Centre, 1110 Highway 26, Midhurst, ON   L0L 1X0.
